SW Ohio College Tech Prep Showcase @ UC Clermont

On Thursday, April 19, 2007, close to 200 area high school students came to our campus to participate in a competition know as the Southwest Ohio College Tech Prep Showcase. The day started early with the arrival of the teams via bus, van, truck and car. Each vehicle was stuffed with display boards, projection screens, computers, projectors and of course, students! Each team was assigned to a table area in the Student Activity Center where they set up their projects.

Judges were members of local industry and professors from College Tech Prep partner schools. After each team presented their project, the scores were totalled and awards were given. The 1st and 2nd place teams will now move to the final round of competition before heading to the State of Ohio championships.

You can see the results at: http://www.techprepswohio.org/programs_showcase_regional.shtml

I was really impressed by the teams and their projects. I'm confident that a few of these projects would be very profitable if made available for sale.

Congratulations to all of the participants and especially to the winning teams from our closest school partners at US Grant Career Center, Southern Hills Career Center, Western Brown High School & Loveland High School:

High School Visit

Morning....

Ever mutter that word because it would take too much energy to say, 'good morning'? I felt that way today after getting up at 5:45 AM to get to my first high school presentation of the day. The question that kept going through my mind was a simple one: 'why do teachers do this every day?' Maybe the real question is 'how' do they do it? I don't like getting up this early and I'm very glad that this is not a normal occurrence in my world.

I need some coffee.... really! Right now!!

Today I got to meet juniors and seniors at Amelia High School in the Business & Technology School. Becky Landen, their instructor, had invited me to speak to her classes about college. I really love doing this, and I feel like I was amped up about it, but many of those students looked like I felt. But you can't go by what you think things look like. I've learned that they are listening and I hope that I gave them a few things to think about that will help each one to have a better life.

Bottom line: you really need to get a college degree to open doors in life.
